Do you see her expression? Curved eyebrows, slight frown, lines on her forehead. She’s clearly saddened, and perhaps concerned.

In my opinion, this is the face of someone who knows they can’t reciprocate feelings, who knows they have to say no. Lance is her friend, she cares about him deeply, but she already knows her choice is Lotor. If she liked Lance back and had to choose between him and Lotor, her expression would be more surprised, conflicted, maybe even more lovestruck and happy.

No, she’s troubled that Lance likes her and maybe wishes it weren’t true because it makes things more complicated for her and she has to have a hard conversation with Lance.

Also the background! The weird lava lamp-like thing behind her is a mix of purple and blue, Lotor and Lance’s colors. It looks like the blue is invading the purple, like the thought that Lance has a crush on her invading her happy thoughts about Lotor. It’s interesting and depicts her being upset even further.

It was a pleasure sailing with you all but in the end, we drown in the sea of Voltron Canon. But we can seek refuge on the safe haven of Voltron Fanfic Island.

We knew what we were getting into when we boarded this ship.

And I must admit I am completely fine with that, because you know what? I couldn’t wait for Lotor to catch Allura’s hands!

Current state of ships

There’s a lot of discourse over shipping in the fandom right now, once again (Oof™) so as a Multishipper I thought, hey, why not look at the proper canon side here.

• -Sheith: We know that there’s a strong bond between them, Keith said he loves Shiro. Considering that Keith has referred to Shiro as his brother multiple times, and judging from the flashbacks, it’s probably safe to say that this is what he sees him as now
• Klance: They didn’t really have any interaction or development since S3 and it’s been shown safely now that Lance is in love with Allura and is quite serious about these feelings. At the moment, I’m not sure how big the chances of endgame Klance are. Maybe there won’t be any endgame? Who knows
• Allurance: As said above, Lance genuinely is in love with her. Judging from Allura’s reaction she doesn’t feel the same way about Lance. She’s also in love with Lotor. Lance supports her a lot this season and Allura realizes & appreciates this and allows herself to get closer to him. However, she still has feelings for Lotor and I’m sure that her not-being-attracted-to-Lance that’s been elaborated since S1 won’t change
• Lotura: Allura is definitely still in love with Lotor, or at least cares a lot, since she wanted to save him still at the end. She’s been hurting a lot over Lotor betraying her and I’m sure it’ll take time to heal. We can’t really know which of the things Lotor told her were lies, but considering that he said “we’re meant to be together” (instead of saying “I want to be with you” or something similar) it kinda implies that he does believe in a connection between them. I felt this statement was genuine, but I suppose you can interpret it however you want
• Hidge/Punk: They started hinting at it last season, first we saw them solely growing closer as friends, but ever since Pidge’s father teased them, it seems the show might be leading into that direction. We got a lot of small background interaction that shows that they’re currently close and care a lot about each other. This ship is probably the one that’s most up to interpretation on this list, so you may disregard it if you don’t agree with there being a kind of romantic undertone
• Shatt: apparently they never reunited after all, since Kuron is the one that met Matt. I’m not sure what that does for their relationship, but since Kuron very much had the same feelings about the people around him as Shiro, the interaction between Matt and Kuron showed how Shiro feels about him too. I just added this one in because a lot of people pointed out that Shiro didn’t actually meet Matt yet
• Shallura: Someone pointed this out to me so I want to add this. The whole scene with Allura essentially reviving Shiro brought them back to balancing out each other, we had her reposition herself to give him a warm smile, we have him with completely white hair now which, character design wise, of course makes them look attractive together and makes viewers more drawn to considering them as a couple (someone made a post about this regarding Lotor and Allura and I think it applies for Shallura as well) I never really thought about Shallura much, so I’d say take a look at the Shallura tag, the shippers actually explain this really well. I think if Allura ends up with someone who isn’t Lotor, it could be Shiro. We don’t get much more than this though at the moment and it might be all speculations.

As I said, this is how I think the ships stand right now, canon-wise

If you feel like I’m bashing a ship, I’m really not, but if it matters, I’ll just come out now and say that my favorite ships are currently Klance, Sheith and Hidge/Punk (I guess that one was obvious lol)

Overall, I think all of us are reading too much into canon & trying to push our ships too hard and it makes us ignore the canon facts, the actual storyline and the characters we’ve come to love so much.

Shipping is fun, but we have to separate canon and fanon.

And guys… we’re not enemies. We’re all in the same fandom. Let’s stick together.

We were used, preyed upon. They purposely built him like Zuko and Allura like Katara knowing it would attract the same people it had thirteen years ago. They built it up even more this time, giving us the glimmer of hope that we could have what we were denied over a decade prior. They must not have been satisfied with just not letting it happen, this time they wanted to really hurt us, punish us for wanting it. This was planned just so they could laugh at as even harder.

Lotor deserves better! Allura deserves better! We deserve better!

Despite of it all, I’m still very grateful for the scenes we got. We did ask for a moment when they were about to kiss and were interrupted

And we got it! Don’t care what they say, that it was all a build up that will lead to a wrenching heartbreak, it doesn’t take the fact away that this moment was real and both were feeling it and we got to see it actually happen.

And then we got an actual kiss! Honestly I hoped for a kiss, but didn’t really expect them to deliver it because let’s face it, this is Voltron and the romance before was very but very subtle. So I’m super happy with these cute lotura moments that I’ve been rewatching. And because JDS did say that Lotor was being honest, he really was happy for Allura and was supportive of her, so these feelings of him at the time towards her were genuine. People say he was using her, but more like he needed her help for it and he got it, and Allura knew of this so I don’t believe he was manipulating her. Granted he wasn’t completely upfront about it, but my point is the lotura moments were real.
